Resumen
CALZADILLA MOREIRA, Vladimir et al. Experiencia de 20 años de trabajo con el empleo de la fijación externa. Rev Cub Med Mil [online]. 2001, vol.30, n.2, pp. 81-86. ISSN 1561-3046.
A mixed descriptive study of 646 patients treated with external fixation at "Dr.Luis Díaz Soto" Higher Institute of Military Medicine to solve traumatic affections or their sequelae from 1978 to 1998 was conducted. 7 models of external fixators were used. There was a significant incidence of males in the decades of higher physical activity. The tibia was the most affected diaphysis in 346 cases. As regards joints, the wrist was affected 76 times. The open fracture predominated in 248 occasions. The use of the external fixator was successful in 89.3 % of the cases. The functional sequelae did not hinder the reincorporation to work of most of the patients. The advantages of this method are shown and the complications are exhaustively analyzed.
