PUGA TORRES, Mario Santiago; PADRON SANCHEZ, Armando y BRAVO PEREZ, Rigoberto. Síndrome de Guillain Barré. Rev Cub Med Mil [online]. 2003, vol.32, n.2, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3046.
Guillain Barré's syndrome is an acute demyelinating inflammatory neuropathy of unknown origin. Its physiopathology is not completely clear and it is underlined that an infectious organism induces an immunological response of humoral and cellular origin that produces a cross reaction against the myelin sheath of the peripheral nerves causing its destruction. The main physiopathological events producing respiratory insufficiency were explained. The present diagnostic criteria, including the results of the electrophysiological studies, were widely commented upon. The criteria established to initiate respiratory assistance were also stressed. Finally, the fundamental therapeutic measures, their indications, doses and the different studies supporting the use of each of them were presented.
