PEREZ LORENZO, Marlene et al. Deficit of alpha 1- antitrypsin. Rev Cub Med Mil [online]. 2006, vol.35, n.1, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3046.
The case of a white female 15-year-old patient, whose clinical onset was suggestive of a cholestatic acute viral hepatitis was presented. During her evolution, it was observed a frank impairment of the hepatic function, with predominance of portal hypertension elements. She died as a result of a high digestive bleeding caused by esophageal varices. The postmortem study showed hepatic alterations consistent with hepatic cirrhosis due to a deficit of alpha 1-antitrypsine. The uncommon presentation of this entity, its extremely severe clinical evolution, and the clinical form in which it manifested, which made it indistinguishable from an acute viral hepatitis, were stressed
