This essay reviews the pretended certainties established around two authors of eighteenth-century Cuban poetry: Father Capacho and Dr. Castro Palomino. In reviewing the bibliography that has identified José Rodríguez Ucares with El Capacho and recognized Juan Miguel de Castro Palomino as the author of the «Décimas que hizo el doctor Palomino, cuando perdió la vista», judgments and findings that move these traditional positions are displayed and they conveniently filter the doubt about what dictionaries and histories of national literature say about their names.
