On the occasion of reprinting “La legitimidad gramatical de la pronunciación hispanoamericana”, the researcher is presented with the interesting situation of having three initial versions: the one in the archives of the Real Academia Española; the first one published by the Academia Cubana de la Lengua and the one resulting from the corrections made by Tortoló by hand, on the published text. In this paper we intend to comment on the changes made, try to unravel their causes, put them in relation to some variables and, if appropriate, answer the question of which of the versions can be considered the most appropriate.
