HERRERA, A et al. RAW MATERIAL CLEANER at Ingenio San Miguelito CONTAINERS WITH THE USE OF THE CROP OF SUGAR CANE (Saccharum spp.). cultrop [online]. 2010, vol.31, n.4, pp. 00-00. ISSN 0258-5936.
The mechanized sugarcane harvest loading causes the introduction of foreign matters to sugar manufacturing process, which not only decreases factory yields, but also makes the existing mechanical elements of industrial equipments be spoiled and broken. San Miguelito sugar mill is not free from this set of problems. Thus, within 2007/2008 sugarcane harvest, the field department started to use the system of ecological containers (a system of two bundles of 25 stalks each that are placed in parallel to the row and on its top once they are cut) and metallic ones during the mechanized loading. Results were compared with the main industrial indicators from 2006/2007 sugarcane harvest, which did not use any container. Besides, results were compared with both kinds of containers and without using them during 2007/2008 sugarcane harvest. In such harvest, less soil, stone and agricultural residues were transferred towards the mill yard, decreasing the lost time in the factory, the accumulated filter cake and the amount of molasses, whereas the mixed juice purity and physical sugar yield increased. The presence of agricultural residues in the factory was higher when using the ecological container; both kinds of containers were exactly the same efficient, concerning the amount of soil and stones, and the metallic container was again better to reduce total impurities. Both containers reduced all impurities present in the raw material.
