Resumen

HERNANDEZ CORDOVA, Naivy  y  SOTO CARRENO, Francisco. Influence of three planting dates on growth and yield of cereal species grown in tropical conditions. Part I. Maize (Zea mays L). cultrop [online]. 2012, vol.33, n.2, pp. 44-49. ISSN 0258-5936.

The productivity of a crop is determined by its genetic potential and environmental impact on its capacity for growth and dry matter partitioning to reproductive destinies, on the other hand, changes in planting date modified corn crop yield response grain. The objective of this work was to study the effect of three planting dates on growth performance and its relationship to performance in the cultivation of corn. The study was conducted at the National Institute of Agricultural Sciences during the dates of the periods (November/2008-March/2009), (June-September/2009) and (July-November/2009), using a planting density of 50000 plants.ha-1. Phenological phases were evaluated weekly and destructive samples were taken after 15 days of issuance of the plants to harvest during each week, determining the total dry mass of aerial parts, leaf area index (LAI) and dry grain yield. The data were fitted to an exponential function of second-degree polynomial; we calculated the absolute growth rate (TAC) of the total dry weight and harvest index. The results show that the time it takes a corn plant to reach flowering stage (end of the vegetative stage and early reproductive) and after physiological maturity, are related to the average air temperature. We show that higher values of dry biomass and leaf area index reached the highest yields.

Palabras clave : maize; sowing date; growth rate; yield.
