Resumen
FERNANDEZ FERRER, María de los Ángeles et al. Sobrediagnóstico microscópico de amebiasis intestinal: encuesta a técnicos de laboratorio. Rev Cubana Invest Bioméd [online]. 1999, vol.18, n.3, pp. 197-202. ISSN 1561-3011.
By using ENZYMEBA, a disgnostic procedure of intestinal amebiasis devoloped at the "Pedro Kourí"Institute of Tropical Medicine, it was proved that in the province of Cienfuegos the microscopic feces test is associated with a marked overdiagnosis of this parasitosis (of 424 samples positive to Entamoeba histolytica by microscopic examination, only 61 proved to be positive by ENZYMEBA). To determine the factors influencing on the quality of the lab technicians´work in this province, most of these technicians (96 of 102) answered a questionnaire containing 23 questions on different aspects related to this type of diagnosis. The results of this survey suggest that in addition to the technical, organizational, and material deficiencies the inadequate theoretical training of those who make the test may also influence on the quality of the diagnosis of intestinal amebiasis by microscopopic examination.
