BORROTO DIAZ, Gerardo; BARCELO ACOSTA, Malicela; GUERRERO DIAZ, Carlos  y  ALONSO RODRIGUEZ, Celia. Insulinorresistencia en el trasplante renal. Rev Cubana Invest Bioméd [online]. 2002, vol.21, n.4, pp. 241-247. ISSN 1561-3011.

A study was conducted among 80 individuals with kidney transplantations. They underwent a glucose tolerance test (GTT) with insulinemia at fasting doses and 120 minutes after an overdose of oral dextrose 75 g. They were divided into 3 groups: normal glucose tolerance test (NGTT) 71.25 % (n=57), impaired glucose tolerance test (IGTT) 12.5 % (n=10) and posttransplant diabetes mellitus (PTDM) 16.25 % (n=113). Hyperinsulinemia was detected in all groups given by the elevated values of insulinemia at 120 minutes with means of 112.5 ± 28.4; 132.8 ± 12.6; 89.6 ± 32.7 for patients with NGTT, IGTT and PTDM, respectively, and by insulin/glycemia ratio 3.2 in the 3 groups, showing the existance of insulin resistance, which appeared at a frequency of 66.6 % (n=38) in subjects with NGTT, 100 % in individuals with IGTT and 92.3 % in those with PTDM (n=12). Patients with insulin resistance were older and had a longer time of evolution with the transplant. It was observed a predominance of males, of dead donors and of family diabetes history, on comparing them with the patients that did not have this complication.

Palabras clave : INSULIN RESISTANCE; GLUCOSE TOLERANCE TEST; KIDNEY TRANSPLANTATION [adverse effects]; DIABETES MELLITUS; RISK FACTORS.
