Original documents were reviewed in the Library and Records of the University of Havana as well as in the Library and Records of "Carlos J. Finlay" Museum of the History of Sciences. Secondary sources of these libraries, of the National Library and the Public Record Office and also those of the Public Health historian’s office were used. The work done by Dr Elena López Serrano was reviewed, who also provided interesting testimonies that enhanced the data-gathering.
