Resumen

LEON ROMAN, Carlos Agustín. La seguridad del paciente, una responsabilidad en el acto del cuidado. Rev Cubana Enfermer [online]. 2006, vol.22, n.3, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-2961.

The health system requires that all those responsible for giving attention to the population get involved in the actions directed to improve the quality of the service in the diverse spheres. Nursing works very hard at the international level to improve the quality of training, assistance, research and the nursing management to attain the patient's safety. An in-depth bibliographic review was made and experts on this topic were consulted to widen the knowledge related to the patient's safety program. The criteria supporting nursing as a profession, the mission and the guidelines ruling the social responsibility, as well as the 10 international criteria used to evaluate the patient's safety are described in detail. Among the quality guarantee programs, the patient's safety is neither an idiom, nor a new approach in the health services; but a professional responsibility implicit in the patient care activity. Nurses should be prepared in such a way that consider their profession as a scientific discipline, that worry about the well-being of humanity and that be able to provide risk-free, adequate and quality care.

Palabras clave : Patient's security; quality; nursing.
