CASTRO LOPEZ, Frank W y GONZALEZ HERNANDEZ, Gretel. Nursing care in the parenteral and enteral feeding of the newborns. Rev Cubana Enfermer [online]. 2006, vol.22, n.4, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-2961.
Nutritional support is the contribution of the nutrients required to maintain the vital functions in the newborn (NB) when conventional feeding is impossible by total parenteral nutrition, enteral nutrition, or both. The aim of this type of support is to reduce the morbidity and mortality associated to malnutrition. The nursing staff should respond to the health care needs of these neonates requiring a proper feeding. That is why a qualified and trained staff is necessary, since the evolution of these patients depends largely on nursing care. An updated bibliographical review was made to go deep into the nursing care applied to the patients with nutritional support.
