PENTON, Gertrudis; MARTIN, G; PEREZ, A  y  NODA, Yolai. Morphoagronomic performance of mulberry (Morus alba L.) varieties during the establishment. Pastos y Forrajes [online]. 2007, vol.30, n.3, pp. 0-0. ISSN 0864-0394.

A study was carried out in areas of the EEPF "Indio Hatuey" in order to evaluate the morphoagronomic performance of four mulberry (Morus alba L.) varieties (Criolla, Indonesia, Cubana and Tigreada), during the establishment stage of transplanted plants. The vegetative material (seedlings) was placed in a nursery for 120 days. The bud emergence dynamics was significantly higher in the varieties Indonesia, Tigreada and Cubana as compared to the Criolla. The variety Tigreada reached the highest average development rate of new branches (0,25 branches/day), although without significant differences with regards to the other varieties. The branch length was higher in the var. Tigreada (0,89 cm as average per day), followed by the varieties Indonesia, Cubana and Criolla (0,77; 0,73 and 0,63 cm/day, respectively). Nevertheless, the branch diameter was higher in the varieties Cubana and Criolla. The variety Indonesia had a significant growth in height and diameter of the stem base (154 cm and 14,6 mm) with regards to the rest of the varieties. All this had a remarkable impact on leaf production, in which the variety Tigreada stood out; it was followed, although with significant differences among themselves, the varieties Indonesia, Cubana and Criolla. Tigreada and Indonesia were concluded to be the varieties of better morphoagronomic performance during the establishment; the former had a high potential of leaf production and the latter showed a remarkable capacity of ligneous tissue accumulation.
