MENDEZ, A; DEL POZO, E y GARCIA, Irma. BIOMASS PRODUCTION BY THE STRAIN Nr-003 OF Nomuraea rileyi (FARLOW) SAMSON IN DIFFERENT LIQUID MEDIA IN SHAKE CULTURE AND ITS VIRULENCE ON Spodoptera frugiperda (J.E. SMITH). Rev. Protección Veg. [online]. 2007, vol.22, n.2, pp. 118-123. ISSN 2224-4697.
With the purpose of determining the biomass production by the strain Nr-003 of Nomuraea rileyi (Farlow) Samson and its virulence on Spodoptera frugiperda (J.E. Smith), the effect of four liquid media was evaluated in shake culture. They were sweet potato broth (B), sweet potato broth-yeast extract (BL), sweet potato broth-yeast extract-calcium chloride (BLC) and sweet potato broth-calcium chloride (BC). The biomass production dynamics on a molasses-yeast extract substrate was also studied. The virulence of the strain was assayed on S. frugiperda larva determining the relationships dose - mortality with the data of the seven days, and time _ mortality for the highest of the doses used through a Probit analysis calculating the values of the lethal dose (LD50) and the lethal time (LT50). A good fungus growth was obtained on the four culture media with the best results on BL. Regarding the growth dynamics, it was found that this fungus produced dry mass after the first 12 hours with a fast growth after 60 hours that became slower after 108 hours. The virulence test showed that the DL50 at 168 hours was 9.7 x 105 (conidia. mL-1) and the TL50 for the highest dose used was 111.5 hours (4.6 days).
