Reflections on the variety of meanings given to the term " information" and the possible causes are presented. The development of the information sector and the projection of information professionals are dealt with on the basis of a literatur review carried out on this topic, with a view to synthetizing and integrating different disciplinary approaches both practical and theoretical concerning the evolution of Library Science, information sciences and their proffesional application at present and present and in the future.
