A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted from January 2002 to December 2003 at the Intensive Care Unit of the Amalia Simoni General Hospital to assess the morbimortality rate of patients that have undergone surgery. The universe was that of patients being admitted to the service in the period. Septic shock was the prevailing cause of death whereas acute kidney failure was the prevailing complication. It should be noted that the shorter the after surgery stay the longer the survival span: A percentage of patients reoperated on did not survive, being suture dehiscence the major cause for it.
Palabras clave : INTENSIVE CARE UNITS; PERITONITIS; MORBIDITY.
