Resumen

CALLICO, Adriana et al. Phenotypical and Serological Characterizations of Pseudomonas aeruginosa Clinical Isolates. Vaccimonitor [online]. 2004, vol.13, n.3, pp. 1-9. ISSN 1025-0298.

The aim of this study was to characterize P. aeruginosa clinical strains isolated from patients with different pathologies in order to select the strains for obtaining candidate antigens for subunit vaccines. The most common serotypes found were O1, O4, O6, O9 and O11. We found a relation between O9 serotype and cystic fibrosis patients. The ability to produce white colonies was also studied by Congo red assay. Seventy two percent of 18 evaluated strains produced white colonies in more than 50% of the total of colonies, which indicates the most of our strains are virulent because this assay is an indirect measurement of the capacity to produce alginate, considered an important virulence factor.

Palabras clave : Phenotypical characterization; serotyping,; Pseudomonas aeruginosa; virulence..
