Resumen

VALDIVIA, Irina et al. Importance of the investigations of viral hepatitis for designing vaccination strategies. Vaccimonitor [online]. 2005, vol.14, n.2, pp. 7-12. ISSN 1025-0298.

The incidence of viral hepatitis was longitudinally evaluated, together with the carrier rates both hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) and antibodies against hepatitis C virus (HCV), that are detected in the ultra-micro analytic system (SUMA ®) screening The incidence rate of hepatitis B was only 1, 2 x 100000 inhabitants in 2002, and a lower incidence rate of HBsAg carriers was also detected that year in correspondence with vaccination. Hepatitis C has also declined, probably because of the epidemiological control. Hepatitis A is diagnosed by an ELISA developed in “Pedro Kourí” Tropical Medicine Institute. This disease remains very high, over 100 x 100000 inhabitants after 1991, for that reason a proper vaccination must be considered for its control.

Palabras clave : Ultra-micro analytical system; SUMA®; ELISA; hepatitis; vaccination.
