LAGARTO PARRA, Alicia; TILLAN CAPO, Juana; VEGA MONTALVO, Raiza y CABRERA GONZALEZ, Yolanda. Toxicidad aguda oral de extractos hidroalcohólicos de plantas medicinales. Rev Cubana Plant Med [online]. 1999, vol.4, n.1, pp. 26-28. ISSN 1028-4796.
Between Cuban Flora plants are included Mentha spicata L, Mentha arvensis L, Mentha citrata E, Plantago major L, Mentha piperita L, and Ocimun gratissimun L., which have many significant pharmacological properties, being necessary a toxicological evaluation of these fluids extracts as well as of their vehicles, to confirm its safety, according to therapeutical use. In study of acute oral toxocity in mice, we evaluated three dose of fluid extract and of hydroalcoholic vehicle, where lethal dose was of 50. In general, toxicity observed in asseyed samples, is due to presence of alcohol in the vehicle used. There wasn´t other type of toxicological disturbances. Thus, extracts were classified as harmful and not toxic.
