Dentomaxillofacial anomalies are a developmental condition, in most cases, it is not due to pathological processes, but to a moderate distortion of normal development, this causes alteration of aesthetics that influences the levels of self-esteem and depression in patients. The objective was to characterize self-esteem and depression in patients with dentomaxillofacial anomalies. A cross-sectional descriptive observational study was carried out in patients admitted to the Orthodontic Consultation of the “Manuel Cedeño” University Clinic of Stomatological Specialties between January and May 2018. The universe consisted of 145 patients with dentomaxillofacial anomalies. The sample consisted of 24 patients older than 15 years to whom the inventories used for self-esteem and depression were applied. The age group of 15 to 17 years (50,00 %) and the female sex (62,50 %) were the ones with the highest percentage; When characterizing the population under study, it was revealed that self-esteem was low in 70,83 % and the level of depression was low as a trait (12,50 %) and high as a state (45,83 %). It was concluded that patients with dentomaxillofacial anomalies have low self-esteem and low and high levels of depression, as trait and state, respectively.
