CANDEBAT FERNANDEZ, Omaida Antonia et al. Hemodialitic treatment and clinical course of the elderly with chronic kidney failure. MEDISAN [online]. 2009, vol.13, n.5, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1029-3019.
A descriptive and cross-sectional study of all patients older than 60 years that received hemodialitic treatment in the Nephrology Service of "Dr. Juan Bruno Zayas Alfonso" Teaching General Hospital from Santiago de Cuba was carried out, from January, 2006 to December, 2007, with view to describe their clinical course. The primary data were extracted of the corresponding medical records and the percentage was used as summary measure. Among the most outstanding results highlights that the diabetes mellitus was the first cause of chronic kidney failure, with a mean age of 65,4 and prevalence of the age group 60-69 years. Each patient presented more than one comorbility at the beginning of the study, where high blood pressure and left ventricular hypertrophy occupied the first places, as long as the cardiovascular complications constituted the first cause of death. Death turned out to be the main cause of exclusion of the program.
