Introduction: the application of the clinical method is in crisis, it is now a constant concern for health professionals. Objective: to determine the mastery and application of the clinical method of the students of third year of the career of Medicine in Moa, in the Propaedeutic rotation in the school year 2014-2015.  Method: a descriptive study was conducted with a sample composed of 65 students who represented 100% of the study population. The results obtained by students in the practical exams of Propaedeutic subject were considered. Results: 49.2% presented difficulties in the physical exam, 32.3% in the interrogation, 30.8% overvalued the application of the technology as a diagnosis means, and the professors considered that the place of the exams had good privacy in the 64.3%, illumination in the 78.6% and hygiene in 57.1%.   Conclusions: the students of the third year of the career of Medicine lacked the mastery and application of the clinical method during the practical exams of Propaedeutic.
