The oxygen is an indispensable molecule for the life, but due to its high reactivity it is a toxic element that when existing, an interference of the balance among the pro-oxidants substances and antioxidants in favor of first ones, generates a situation known as oxidative stress. As consequence of this, free radicals with unpredictable damages at cellular level are formed, so they are implied in multiple illnesses. It is because the nature has developed control systems, the antioxidants systems. In the last years, the interest has increased by the search for natural antioxidants to counteract its effects, finding conflicting results for its use.
Palabras clave : oxidative stress; antioxidants.
