Resumen

DOPICO-RAVELO, Daniesky et al. Blood culture as a means of microbiological mapping in community-acquired pneumonia. Rev Ciencias Médicas [online]. 2022, vol.26, n.6  Epub 01-Nov-2022. ISSN 1561-3194.

Introduction:

community-acquired pneumonia represents a worldwide health problem, being the most frequent cause of death of infectious etiology. It is treated empirically, where the ideal way to avoid antimicrobial resistance is to use microbiological resources such as blood culture to establish a microbiological map.

Objective:

to characterize the use of blood culture as a diagnostic tool for microbiological mapping of community-acquired pneumonia.

Methods:

an observational, descriptive and transversal study was carried out in patients treated at the "León Cuervo Rubio" Clinical and Surgical Teaching Hospital. A total of 150 patients were studied, selected by simple random sampling. Clinical histories and the microbiological results book were reviewed.

Results:

57,33 % of the patients were men, and 44 % were between 60 and 79 years old. The most predominant risk factors were smoking (48 %) and ischemic heart disease (22 %). Negative blood cultures predominated (77,33 %); where quagulase-negative and positive germs, with antibiograms sensitive to beta-lactams and cephalosporins represented 90 %.

Conclusions:

the predominant sex was male, between 60 and 79 years old, with risk factors of smoking and ischemic heart disease, with negative blood cultures and within the positive ones with antibiograms sensitive to beta-lactams and cephalosporins.

Palabras clave : PNEUMONIA; BLOOD CULTURE.
