Resumen

LOBO ROMERO, Yadira et al. Morphometric changes produced on the testicular parenchyma in Wistar rats treated with bee honey. Rev Ciencias Médicas [online]. 2022, vol.26, n.6  Epub 01-Nov-2022. ISSN 1561-3194.

Introduction:

Infertility is becoming more and more common in developed societies. It is estimated that there are 60-80 million infertile couples worldwide and at least 30 million men suffer from infertility.

Objective:

to describe the morphometric changes of the testicular parenchyma in Wistar rats treated with bee honey administration.

Methods:

a non-observational, basic, experimental, standard clinical trial type study was carried out in Wistar rats at the University of Medical Sciences of Pinar del Río, in the period September 2019-September 2021. The sample consisted of 27 specimens, which were distributed in three groups: group 1 (1g/miel/kg), group 2 (3g/miel/kg) and group 3 (control). The extracted testes were studied with the elaboration of histological slides.

Results:

There was a statistically significant variation in the diameter, area and volume of the nucleus and perimeter of Leydig cells (p<0.001) between groups, where the highest values were found in group 2. A greater smaller diameter (0,72 ± 0,12) and a greater larger diameter (0,92 ± 0,10) were found in group 2, with statistically significant inter-group variations (p<0,001).

Conclusions:

in male Wistar rats, the administration of bee honey produces a dose-dependent increase in the diameter, area, perimeter and volume of the nucleus of Leydig cells, as well as in the greater and smaller diameters of the seminiferous tubules.
