Resumen
MIRAVET SANCHEZ, Barbara Liz et al. Water quality of Ariguanabo river according to physico-chemical indices and bioindicators. riha [online]. 2016, vol.37, n.2, pp. 108-122. ISSN 1680-0338.
The index of surface water quality and the one based on macroinvertebrates tolerance yielded very similar results characterizing the waters as polluted to heavily polluted for all sampling points of Ariguanabo river. Low dissolved oxygen concentrations are observed caused by high level of stagnation of the current, excessive growth of aquatic vegetation and less photosynthetic activity because of the high degree of coverage of gallery forest. Chemical oxygen demand and fecal coliform values are beyond standards due to the large amount of input wastewater with high concentrations of organic matter of domestic and porcine origin. In the macroinvertebrate fauna there is a predominance of families with high tolerance to contamination mainly from Molusca order.
