Introduction: The number of persons arrives to third age show an ascending trend. In this context the hip fractures become a rising health problem with direct incidences in mortality and it is a frequent cause of functional inability in elderly people. Objective: To identify and quantify the influence of different factors related to the death prognosis in patients operated on due to hip fractures. Method: A cohort analytical study was conducted in patients diagnosed with hip fracture for surgical treatment admitted in the Orthopedics service of the «Carlos Manuel de Céspedes» Provincial Hospital of Bayamo province from July, 2004 to December, 2009.Results: From 172 study cases, 40 dye (23,3%). In the univariant analysis carried out the variables like sex and the time-hours from admission up to surgical procedure, not showed a independent influence on death. The logistic regression model showed that high blood pressure (RR = 153.20, CI 14.897 1575, 531, p = 0.00), a lengthy surgical time (RR = 46.79, CI 7.72-274.668, p = 0.00) and physical condition of patient (RR = 7.924, CI 1.718-36.548, p = 0.008) were factors of independent influence related to the death risk in patients operated on of hip fracture. Conclusions: With the values obtained by logistic regression adjustment for factors of independent influence on death, it will be possible to predict the death risk of our patients.
