Resumen

FUSTE BRUZAIN, Mercedes; PEREZ INERARITY, Maydell  y  PAZ ENRIQUE, Luis Ernesto. Characterization of the social support networks of the older adult in the senior stay of the municipality of Camajuaní, Cuba. Rev Nov Pob [online]. 2018, vol.14, n.27, pp. 1-12. ISSN 1817-4078.

It was made a descriptive, observational study, pertaining to quantitative research methodology. The objective was to characterize the social support networks that older adults have in the senior stay of the municipality of Camajuaní (Cuba) during 2016. To obtain results were used methods at the theoretical and empirical levels. As results it was obtained that the elderly belong mostly to the stage of senescence, male sex and widowers; characteristics that according to the literature are associated with institutional income. According to the frequency of contacts established with them, the institution constitutes their main support network. From their perception, older adults refer to living in a family environment with disharmonious relationships between members which generates difficulties for the full transmission of different forms of support. Elders point to the senior stay as the network with the most frequent contacts. The institution constitutes its instrumental, informative, spiritual and emotional support. They are pleased with their permanence in the institution largely by their peers, achieving a full development and maintaining their quality of life.

Palabras clave : older adults; aging; psychological development; social support; formal support networks; informal support networks.
