Homophobia is a reality in the context of the educational sector in the rural areas of Canton Manta, a problem that is faced daily in the most diverse contexts of interaction and development. Among its main actors are both adolescent students and teachers. In an approach to the subject, the objective of this work is to explain the possible causes and manifestations of this social phenomenon in the referred context. Based on the assumed theoretical positions derived from various studies on homophobia, it is specified that the causes may be of family, social, cultural, religious, political origin, opening the gap more and more. Although it is recognized that the statistical margin to carry out any study on the subject is very wide and the data are inaccurate, it is noted that the reality is that homophobia in the XXI century continues to have space, even when greater understanding of diversity in sexual projections is appreciated. Consequently, the intervention and its results are illustrated from the diagnosis of an intentional sample and the results of the theoretical-methodological deepening.
