Introduction:
Statistical information is a fundamental tool to study the characteristics of certain diseases that impact the population, such as COVID-19, where the study of different variables characteristics of the disease allows making decisions to preserve the population's health.
Objective:
To characterize from the clinical-epidemiological point of view the patients admitted in the isolation room of San Cristobal, province of Artemisa in the period March-May 2020.
Methods:
A cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out. Variables such as age, sex, municipality of residence, category of admission, and patient status were analyzed. The information was collected from the statistical registry of San Cristobal's isolation room, where a database was elaborated in SPSS for statistical processing; values of percent and rates were used for the interpretation of the data.
Results:
At the isolation center, 356 admissions were made predominantly by males with 56% of the patients. Within the age groups there was a predominance of persons over 18 years old, although 12% of the admissions were under 18 years old. The municipality with the highest number of admissions was San Cristobal with 30%, followed by Bahía Honda with 20%, 60% of the total were in the condition of suspects of which 4 were confirmed, 100% of the cases were recovered and discharged.
Conclusions:
The municipality has a low incidence of the disease of 0.05 per thousand inhabitants.
