Resumen

CUENCA GARCELL, Katiuska et al. Intellectual capital, attracting foreign investment in the health sector and economic growth. Infodir [online]. 2023, n.40  Epub 01-Abr-2023. ISSN 1996-3521.

Introduction:

The aggregate rate of economic growth in the major economies of the developed world is increasingly dependent on the creation of new types of industries, in which knowledge is applied to obtain improved and more competitive services or products.

Objective:

To expose, from a theoretical point of view, the contribution that intellectual capital offers, through foreign investment in the health sector, to the economic growth of the country.

Author's position:

The work comprises a critical and collective analysis of the authors and does not intend to generalise positions, but rather, on the contrary, to give rise to fruitful deliberations that enrich the valuing of intellectual capital as an attraction for foreign investment in the health sector. Shared are references to the economic growth of sustainable socialism with market participation as a priority for the country, a brief characterisation of foreign investment in Cuba, and assessments of intellectual capital and its importance for the success of enterprises in the health sector.

Conclusions:

In Cuba there is a wealth of technical scientific knowledge and technological innovations, however, the culture of recognition and negotiation of intellectual capital as a contribution to foreign investment is not widespread. The investment of intangible assets emerges as an important key to boost sustainable development and build capacities that create a competitive advantage for the Cuban business sector; it is urgent to promote the attraction of foreign capital with greater attention and attraction for foreign investment.
