Resumen

LAO RAMOS, Beatriz  y  PELAEZ HERNANDEZ, Dania. Remote Sensing and Geographic Information System in the Decision Making Process for Land Management. Rev Cie Téc Agr [online]. 2018, vol.27, n.1, pp. 54-65. ISSN 2071-0054.

Proper management of the land resource is an important indicator of food production and the localities’ economic development. The use of tools such as remote sensing and GIS allow collecting and processing information related to land use, inaccessible areas and retrospective time periods, which contribute to the decision making process for proper resource planning. This study aims to show the application of these tools in land management, analyzing since its use, for Jimaguayu Municipality during 1977-2012 period. Remote sensing allowed obtaining the spatial distribution of land use by 1986. The GIS was used in the analysis of spatial-temporal dynamic. The results show that changes in land use had, in many cases, a negative impact on local agricultural development, with decrease tendency in the natural pastures areas and an increase of the uncultivated area. This caused problems in agricultural sector such as loss of land resources, overgrazing of areas, compaction of soils, etc. This result was used in the local Environmental Management Model analysis.

Palabras clave : land management; geographic information system; remote sensing; land use.
