Resumen

Objective:

This is a review article that aims at systematizing the theoretical foundations of project-based learning (PBL), an excellent constructivist innovative strategy to develop students’ mathematical competencies. The paper aims at devising a methodology of learning based on Projects (ABP) in mathematics as an educational innovation in the teaching of algebraic expressions at the secondary level.

Methods:

The authors rely on the method of descriptive review and analysis of documents and articles.

Result:

The students’ learning difficulties of the contents of algebraic expressions may be due to the lack of motivation and the predominance of non-innovative teaching strategies.

Conclusion:

Project-based learning is an innovative strategy that motivates students and integrates mathematical content with real context, aiding students to develop the expected competencies.
