Objective:

This article aims at identifying the perceptions of the Graduates in Education, major in Computer Science, of the University of Cienfuegos "Carlos Rafael Rodríguez", on the use of project-based learning (PBL) in the teaching-learning process of the subjects of the discipline Programming Languages and Techniques, as well as the contribution of these subjects to the acquisition of transversal competencies.

Methods:

Analysis of documents and survey of 34 graduates of the major Bachelor of Education, Computer Science and one (1) of the major Informatics-Labor Education, former name of this major.

Result:

The graduates surveyed perceive that the treatment given to transversal competencies related to learning to learn, teamwork and communication, as well as the use of PBL in the subjects of the discipline Programming Languages and Techniques, in the training of these professionals, is insufficient. In addition, they consider that the competence to which less treatment is given is learning to learn.

Conclusion:

Despite most of documents ruling the Bachelor's Degree in Education, Computer Science identify “achieving cognitive independence of the students, enhancing their active involvement and using projects during the teaching-learning process" are requirement of education, surveyed graduates perceive limitations in the way the discipline Programming Languages and Techniques manages the use of projects and the treatment of transversal competencies learning to learn, teamwork and communication.
