SOLANO APUNTES, Edison Hidalgo; BELEZACA PINARGOTE, Carlos Eulogio; LOPEZ TOBAR, Rolando Manuel  y  MACIAS SUAREZ, Keberlin Patricia. Incidence and severity of Vascular Wilt Disease, regressive death of tectona grandis l. F. In four provinces of Ecuador. Universidad y Sociedad [online]. 2019, vol.11, n.5, pp. 262-269.  Epub 02-Dic-2019. ISSN 2218-3620.

The research aimed to determine the incidence and severity of vascular wilt disease, regressive death of Tectona grandis L. f. (teak) in four provinces of the Coastal region of Ecuador. The provinces were Los Ríos, Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas, Esmeraldas and Guayas. Three farms were visited per province and three 500 square meters plots were established, a tree by tree census was carried out, to determine the incidence and severity, a data collection sheet with an arbitrary scale of 5 categories was used, depending on the visible morphological differences, to compare them with healthy trees. The symptoms were loss of turgidity of leaves located at the ends of upper branches and loss of the photosynthetic area, generating the appearance of epicormic shoots. The variable number of epicormic outbreaks among the provinces studied, presented significant statistical differences. Plantations in the province of Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas had the highest number of shoots per tree, while the lowest number of shoots was detected in the province of Guayas. The highest height of epicormic outbreaks in affected trees was found in the province of Esmeraldas, and the lowest height in the province of Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas, at 4.93 m and 2.46 m above ground level. Regarding the variables Incidence and Severity of the disease, no significant differences were found among the plantations studied.

Palabras clave : Epicormic outbreaks; Ceratocystis fimbriata; etiology; fungal organisms; forest plantations.
