Resumen

MATO MEDINA, Oscar Enrique; AMBRIS SANDOVAL, Julio; LLERGO YOUNG, Mónica  y  MATO MARTINEZ, Youhanna. Self-concept in adolescents according to gender and academic performance in Physical Education. Universidad y Sociedad [online]. 2020, vol.12, n.6, pp. 22-30.  Epub 02-Dic-2020. ISSN 2218-3620.

The self-concept is a very important construct for research with adolescents because it allows to value the relationship between individual perceptions and the results they achieve in different activities. The research was carried out to assess the correlation of the dimensions of self-concept among them and with academic performance, as well as to know the relationship between academic performance in the subject of Physical Education and the students' gender. The research sample was the total enrollment of the 6th semester of a high school belonging to a public university in the southeast of Mexico. It was verified that there were no differences in the grades obtained in the subject Physical Education between men and women and that the academic performance only had a correlation with the academic self-concept. It was also proven that there was a correlation between the dimensions of self-concept and that the academic and family dimensions were the ones with the best average values of their answers, while the physical dimension reached averages below 61 points, which placed it as the one with the lowest collective average.

Palabras clave : Self-concept; academic achievement; adolescence; physical self-concept.
