GOMEZ-MATOS, Mislén; MARTINEZ-BALMORI, Dariellys  y  COLL-GARCIA, Yamilet. Alginate and their oligosaccharides from drifting brown algae: preparation and agricultural bioactivity. A review. Rev Cub Quim [online]. 2023, vol.35, n.1, pp. 46-67.  Epub 17-Ene-2023. ISSN 2224-5421.

Algae drifts are a source of raw material for obtaining flours, liquid extracts with bioactive molecules, and polysaccharides. In the last group, are found the alginates, which extracted from brown algae, with wide application in various industries. In agricultural industry, this natural polymer is frequency use in the form of his degradation products, indeed like alginate oligosaccharides. This review focuses in the principal methods for alginate extraction, and preparation of its oligosaccharides, besides a briefly summary of oligosaccharides bioactivity in agriculture. A protocol simple and efficient for obtaining oligosaccharide would contribute to the reduction of importations, the substitution and/or reduction of agrochemicals in agriculture and the recycling of marine waste, promoting food production and the preservation of the environment.

Palabras clave : natural polymer; Sargassum spp.; depolymerization; hydrolysis; sustainable agriculture..
