MAGANA-IRONS, Lisset; ROJAS-VARGAS, Armando; GONZALEZ-DIAZ, Yudith y OJEDA-ARMAIGNAC, Elaine. Pollutants removal of milky residual by electrocoagulation with aluminum electrodes. RTQ [online]. 2020, vol.40, n.1, pp. 17-34. ISSN 2224-6185.
In the present work, the electrocoagulation was studied experimentally to reduce the pollutant load discharged into the environment of the liquid residual from the dairy industry, for this purpose an electrochemical cell was used on a laboratory scale, constituted by a discontinuous cylindrical reactor, equipped with two aluminum electrodes. The influence of pH, the current density and the most adequate electrolysis time in the electrocoagulation process was determined, using the factorial experimental design 2k-1 with a central level. It was demonstrated that at the current density of 3,39 mA / cm2, pH of 9,5 and electrolysis time of 5 minutes, it is possible to raise the quality of the water before its discharge, using later on the unit operations of sedimentation, centrifugation and filtration. To comply with the requirements of the Cuban Standard NC27:2012 there were obtained: 93 % removal of Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), 97 % of color removal; turbidity less than or equal to 10 NTU and conductivity of 7,8 mS/cm. The electricity consumption was 2,25·10-5 kW·h.
