The question, what can science achieve during pandemics? Is relevant and necessary today. COVID-19 is a unique case study to answer this question, due to its novelty and impact worldwide. This essay aims to expose what science can achieve during pandemics, based on five theses that summarize the main lessons learned in the confrontation with this disease during the years 2020 and 2021 in Cuba.
