DE LA FE NUNEZ, Yaimelis et al. Vestibular schwannoma: A case report. Anales de la ACC [online]. 2023, vol.13, n.2  Epub 06-Mar-2024. ISSN 2304-0106.

Introduction:

Schwannomas are encapsulated tumors that originate in the Schwann cells of the cranial nerves, being the most affected the VIII cranial nerve. The objective of this work is to expose the characteristics of a case with vestibular Schwannoma detected early in the otorhinolaryngology consultation. Clinical case: We present the case of a 44-year-old male patient who went to the otolaryngology clinic with an 8-year history of gait instability, vertigo, progressive hearing loss and tinnitus in the left ear. It was performed physical examination, normal otoscopy, Romberg, Babinski and Unterberger test with lateralization to the left. They were performed audiological and imaging studies, diagnosing vestibular Schwannoma. It is decided conservative treatment. Conclusions: Vestibular schwannoma is a rare tumor with unilateral auditory and vestibular symptoms. The suspicion and confirmation of early diagnosis with elements of the clinical history, contrasting audiological and imaging studies, guarantee the implementation of an individualized therapeutic option that contributes to the patient's quality of life.
