Resumen

CARDENAS BERRIO, María Karla  y  RIVERA, Zoia. An overview of information sciences in Cuba based on the master's degree theses written from 2005 to 2012. Rev. cuba. inf. cienc. salud [online]. 2016, vol.27, n.2, pp. 122-137. ISSN 2307-2113.

The paper provides a bibliometric analysis of the library and information science master's degree theses presented at the School of Communication of the University of Havana from 2005 to 2012. The methodological strategy followed was knowledge sociology, using Bourdieu's concepts of field, cultural capital and habitus, which allowed a reflexive approach to the subject. The main results obtained by the study refer to the number of theses written each year, the fields of knowledge most commonly addressed and tutoring agents associated to them, and techniques and methods used in each area of knowledge. Evidence was found of a trend toward documentary research in the field of information sciences.

Palabras clave : field; capital; Sociology; graduate studies; Information Science; master's degree thesis.
