ZABALA ARGUELLES, María del Carmen; FUNDORA NEVOT, Geydis Elena y ECHEVARRIA LEON, Dayma. Notes for the Understanding of Inequalities and Equity in the Cuban Socialist Development Model. Estudios del Desarrollo Social [online]. 2022, vol.10, n.3 Epub 01-Dic-2022. ISSN 2308-0132.
The exercise of rights, the distribution of wealth and resources, the exercise of power, participation and access to human opportunities are areas where inequalities between individuals, groups, households, families and communities are expressed. Given the complexity and the multidimensional and relational nature of this phenomenon, the social sciences have developed different approaches to its understanding. Its application to recent studies in Cuba reveals the reinforcement of the situation of poverty by the articulation of gender-skin color-ruralization-migrant status-disability-sexual orientation, etc. Among the factors that explain this are the differentiated effects that different policies have had on the equity gaps, according to the assumptions of change - not exempt of contradictions - that are handled by different actors. It is therefore necessary to encourage an open and democratic dialogue on the horizons of social equity to which the Cuban model aspires.
