Resumen
ORTEGA, Jaime. A Critique of Neocolonial Political Economy: An Approach to the Work of Manuel Maldonado-Denis. Estudios del Desarrollo Social [online]. 2023, vol.11, n.1 Epub 01-Mar-2023. ISSN 2308-0132.
Manuel Madonado-Denis was a prolific Puerto Rican historian. His work, framed in the process of radicalization after the Cuban revolution, expresses the tensions of the Marxist intelligentsia in the region. On the one hand, the search to understand in historical terms the weakness of the radical and independence positions; on the other, an attempt to capture the processes of the conjuncture. This paper explores the tensions, problems and limits of a reflection that tried to understand the specificity of the Puerto Rican and Caribbean situation, without renouncing a totalizing explanation. Three aspects are analyzed: the history and critique of colonialism, the emphasis on the conjuncture of the late sixteens and the specific construction of a genealogy of revolutionary Antillean thought.
