The objective of this article was to understand the theoretical evolution of the concept of resilience, as well as its link with disasters, based on a bibliographic search in different sources and authors. It gathers different conceptual contributions of some authors who have dedicated years of their professional and research work to this topic. It contains references on the generations of researchers and the Schools of Resilience. It also refers to community resilience, its pillars and anti-pillars and the actions that can build or promote it. It addresses aspects of disaster resilience and highlights the value of psychosocial preparation as the basis of cultural-historical training to enhance individual, family and community resilience. It emphasizes that the process of resilience in practice and research should be approached from a holistic perspective, where the community assumes an active role.
