In fifty years, international trade in services has changed, grown and become the most dynamic segment of world trade and a very important pillar of the international economy. The purpose of this paper is to summarize its evolution during this period, its growth dynamics, by categories of services and by modes of supply, its geographical distribution and the contribution of services to the international economy. The General Agreement on Trade in Services constitutes its multilateral regulatory framework. It summarizes the main trends in recent years, which demonstrate the adjustment and resilience of trade in services. It is concluded that the strength, diversity and adaptability of services confirm the trends of the last decades.
