Resumen

FERNANDEZ CAMPOS, Mariana. Teaching Philological Subjects through Classical Numismatics. UH [online]. 2023, n.297  Epub 10-Jun-2023. ISSN 0253-9276.

The Museum of Classical Archeology Juan Miguel Dihigo y Mestre of the Faculty of Arts and Letters at the University of Havana preserves remarkable collections not only of medium and large format gypsum sculptures but also original numismatic pieces and copies from the Ancient Greco-Roman world. Using a case study, based on the collection of Roman Republican and Imperial original coins, this essay presents three fundamental aspects or lines of analysis of the numismatic science that notably helps to clarify and liven up different subjects which are usually part of the teaching programs of classical philology at the universities. It is an experience already proven effective and useful; it is also a philological and archeological way to transit ancient contents through modern and transdisciplinary paths.

Palabras clave : teaching; classical philology; ancient Roman coins; Museum Juan Miguel Dihigo.
