Until recently, the physicians did not take seriously the indication of a suitable diet for every disease to attain the improvement and cure of the patients. Objective: to update the knowledge of different aspects of the history of nutrition and of the discovery of some vitamins. A review of the history of nutrition and of the discovery of some vitamins in the world is made. The library of "Carlos J. Finlay" Museum of the Academy of Sciences was visited to review the books of the time when the scientific discoveries related to nutrition and vitamins C, B and A were made. The study of the history of nutrition and of the discovery of some vitamins , in which so many scientists have strived, is very important because it is an example to continue investigating those health problems that have not been defined yet.
