RODRIGUEZ CABRERA, Aida  y  ALVAREZ VAZQUEZ, Luisa. Repercussion of the Cuban population´s aging on the healthcare sector. Rev Cubana Salud Pública [online]. 2006, vol.32, n.2, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3127.

The population, the main productive force of the society and at the same time the consumer of those means and services produced, demands long-term and medium-term vision of their reproduction regularities. Consequently, in the search for equity, effectiveness and efficiency, the Cuban healthcare system must know very well the possible challenges that the process of population aging might generate. The present paper is aimed at meeting this objective. Some reflections were made on the present trends in the Cuban population and their effects on the health care sector in the first 50 years of the current century. The irreversible character of the aging process and the need of adapting health services in a country with a high number of aged people were proved. This allows making a better assessment of the future strategies that this sector should undertake
