This paper is one of the pieces of research into how financial markets work today, carried out at the University of Havana Faculty of Accounting and Finance. It deals with the phenomenon of financial intermediation, by adopting a modern Marxist approach thereto. A body of writings on this subject was reviewed. The paper starts from Marxist views on financial intermediation, and afterward explains how this manifests itself in today´s neoliberal globalization.
