Institutions that conceive the banking business under the principles of sustainability recognize and integrate environmental and social factors in the performance of their activity. Thus, they leave aside the archaic idea that the most important thing is to obtain increased profits in each period. This strategy is the expression of one of the current exponents of international banking: sustainable banking. This paper presents the main fundamentals that allow us to define it, contextualize it and differentiate it from traditional banking, with special emphasis on the advantages it represents in the current context. In addition, it reflects the importance of the constitution of such an entity in Cuba, taking into account the particular conditions of the country and its development project.
